Tata Steel SC (x Aphelion)

2026 is the first year we have organised an open at Tata Steel SC. situated on Eglwys Nunydd reservoir, at Margam near Port Talbot – very conveniently accessed from the M4 motorway. The reservoir forms a sizeable open fresh water lake, approximately one mile long by half a mile wide offering great dinghy racing. There are a couple of Comets based there.

This would be sharing with the Ospreys Welsh Championships. They’ll probably have 15 or so boats. Theirs is a two day event, but Tata usually aims for three races on the first day, with the first race at 12:00, a lunch stop and then two races back to back. A further two races are held on the Sunday. The three Saturday races would constitute the event for the Comets with a prize-giving at 4:30 to 5:00 pm.

Tata will have an online booking system in place, closing at midnight on the previous Thursday. Registrations on the day incur a £5 surcharge. This is to enable the galley to estimate catering numbers.

If any wish to stay over Tata would be happy for them to join in club racing. There is a camping area and access to a toilet overnight.
