Tata Steel SC (Western Aphelion)

This is our first Comet open of 2026, so let’s have a high entry to celebrate the start of the season. It is also the first time we have organised an open at Tata Steel SC. situated on Eglwys Nunydd reservoir, at Margam near Port Talbot – very conveniently accessed from the M4 motorway. The reservoir forms a sizeable open fresh water lake, approximately one mile long by half a mile wide offering great dinghy racing. There are a couple of Comets based there.

We will be sharing the water with the Ospreys Welsh Championships. They’ll probably have 15 or so boats.

Tata will have an online booking system in place, closing at midnight on the previous Thursday. Registrations on the day incur a £5 surcharge. This is to enable the galley to estimate catering numbers.

If you wish to stay over Tata would be happy for you to join in club racing on the Sunday. There is a camping area and access to a toilet overnight.
