Derek Coleman

Derek was a staunch supporter of the class association, having had Comets for many years.  Until recently he had Comet303 and Comet707 at home, although he hadn’t been able to sail them off the beach by his house for a while.   He was our Treasurer for many years, and also acted as auditor for a while.   You could always spot him on the water as he didn’t use the kicker, but it didn’t seem to affect his sailing performance.  Derek was a member of Kingsmead Sailing Club for a long time and was one of the “Comet Crew” there which regularly chartered boats in places like Greece.   They always flew a Comet flag on their chartered boat, and Derek was very proud to have signed up a new member when moored up in Kos when a crew member on another boat came over and said that they had just bought a Comet.   Henry and I were delighted and honoured when he agreed to be our Best Man for our wedding.   We know that he will be sadly missed by many of you.   If you would like to make a donation in Derek’s memory, please send it to:  St. Wilfrid’s Hospice, Grosvenor Road, Chichester, PO 19 8FP.

I hope that Derek has joined Robin and that they are continuing to argue over who is on starboard.
